Why a rug shop, not a carpet truck
It comes up on nearly every visit we make in Boca. The stone and hardwood floors already have a service booked, and the good rug anchoring the living room seems like it could tag along on the same appointment.
Yet a fitted carpet and a hand-knotted rug are built for opposite treatment. Carpet is stretched taut and tacked to the floor, made to be scrubbed in place. A fine rug stands on its own — wool or silk pile knotted onto a cotton foundation, colored with dyes that were never meant to sit under a scalding extraction wand.
Clean a good rug where it lies and three quiet failures follow: the gritty sand stays trapped in the base, the colors can wander, and the rug dries slowly against your floor. This close to the Atlantic, with salt in the air and the humidity that rolls off the water, that slow drying is precisely how browning and a musty smell take hold.
Hand-knotted wool that anchors a whole room has earned a proper bath, not a hurried pass with a steam wand.

Wool, silk & everything hand-knotted
Wool, silk and cotton foundations each answer to water and dye in their own way — which is exactly why nothing skips the test bench. Even so, every rug that grounds a Boca living room below runs one in-plant sequence: measured, checked for pH and dye stability, deep-dusted, washed, and speed-dried.
A hand-knotted Oriental is a textile, not carpet. It earns a full immersion in the plant — never a hot wand dragged across it out on the lanai.

Two rugs the same size can still need completely different handling.
A machine-made 8×10 in sound condition is a simple wash. The same size hand-knotted piece with unstable dyes, years of buried sand and a pet accident soaked into one corner is a wholly different job.
What decides the price: measured size, fiber and construction, dye stability, soil level, pet contamination, and whether the fringe or the edges need repair.
So we inspect first, then quote — once, before any work begins.
The pre-inspection costs nothing, and the figure we hand you when we collect the rug is the figure you pay. No coupons, no phone-quote guessing, no surprise waiting at delivery.

Straight answers
There is nothing to bring in. Our service is free pickup and delivery across Boca Raton — Royal Palm Yacht & Country Club, The Sanctuary, Old Floresta, Boca West and everywhere between — reaching into Delray Beach, Highland Beach and Deerfield Beach as well. We arrive at your door, roll and wrap the rug, and return it once every stage is finished.
A hand-knotted rug is a free textile, not wall-to-wall carpet locked to the slab. Run a hot wand over it where it lies and the buried sand never leaves, the dyes can travel, and it dries slowly against your tile. In Boca’s ocean humidity that lingering damp is exactly what breeds browning and a mildew edge. It belongs flat in a wash pit.
We test before we wet it. Every rug gets a pre-inspection: a pH reading and a dye-stability check in a hidden corner, because certain older vegetable-dyed weaves will bleed if water meets them the wrong way. If yours is a bleed risk we adjust the method, and we show you what we found before a single drop touches the pile.
We set the price after the inspection, never before it. Size, fiber, how it was made, dye stability, the soil ground into the foundation, any pet contamination, and repairs all change what a rug needs — so a phone figure would only be a guess. When we collect the rug we examine it and give you the exact number before any cleaning begins.
Most of the time, yes. Urine dries into alkaline salts buried deep in the foundation, and blotting the surface never reaches them — so we immerse and flush the entire rug to rinse them out. Older or repeated accidents can resist, and at the inspection we give you an honest read on the realistic result before you commit to anything. More on pet odor removal.
Yes, and every repair is worked by hand at our own plant, never shipped elsewhere. That means fringe repair and replacement, side and edge overcasting, hole repair and reweaving, moth damage, dry rot, resizing and full restoration. If a fix would cost more than the rug is worth, we tell you that outright rather than sell it to you.
Most rugs are home in roughly a week. The wash is followed by controlled speed-drying in a room where heat and humidity are managed, which is what keeps the colors from migrating, so we do not rush that stage. Rugs that also need hand repair run a little longer, and you get an honest timeline at the inspection.
